The HSOs in Primal Defense give you the powerful nutrients you would get if your food came from soil untouched by pesticides, herbicides and other widely used chemicals. To replenish the valuable nutrients our modern diet no longer provides, Primal Defense includes 14 species of hardy, non-dairy HSOs. For even greater efficacy, these HSOs are grown in a base of nutrient-rich Superfoods, providing more than 100 naturally occurring live enzymes, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, chlorophyllins and plant saponins. Much more than a defense, the HSO blend in Primal Defense literally attacks the harmful pathogens in the intestines to eliminate populations of yeast, parasites and bad bacteria. Unlike other probiotics, the HSOs in Primal Defense supplements can thrive in the toughest digestive environments and are undeterred by temperature, stomach acid, chlorine, fluorine, ascorbic acid or bile.

Whether you suffer from severe digestive disorders or are in perfect health, let the powerful HSOs in Primal Defense take you to a new level of total health.

Primal Defense supplements come in two easy-to-use forms: Powder and UltraZorbe™ caplets.

Primal Defense Q&A

What are probiotics and why do I need them?

Probiotics are formulas designed to promote the growth of beneficial microorganisms, also called good bacteria. Healthy human intestines contain billions of microorganisms—both good and bad. The good bacteria in the intestine are considered an integral part of your immune system. Probiotics provide good bacteria that synthesize the B-complex vitamins and crowd out yeast and parasites. Many people are unaware that daily exposure to our environment and even certain habits considered healthy—taking antibiotics, drinking chlorinated water, using antibacterial soap—often kill these good bacteria essential for health.

What are HSO blends and how do they work?

HSOs, or Homeostatic Soil Organism blends, are super probiotics available in Primal Defense supplement. Upon being swallowed, the HSO compunds activate and restore the gut's balance by attaching themselves to the intestinal wall. On the intestinal wall, they reproduce to form colonies where harmful bacteria and other pathological microorganisms live. Once established, the HSO compunds quickly begin crowding out pathogens and producing the proper environment for nutrient absorption, reinstating a balanced pH. Once established, HSOs improve your body's functions in a number of ways. In fact, according to early research and anecdotal evidence, HSOs have been found to:

Work from inside the intestines, dislodging accumulated decay from the walls and flushing out waste.

Break down hydrocarbons, which means they possess a unique ability to split food into its most basic elements, allowing almost total absorption through the digestive system. This increases overall nutrition and enhances cellular development.

Produce specific proteins that act as antigens, encouraging the immune system to manufacture huge pools of uncoded antibodies. This increased production of antibodies may significantly boost the body's ability to ward off disease.

Aggressively consume pathological yeasts, fungi, bacteria, parasites and viruses.

Work in symbiosis with somatic (tissue or organ) cells to metabolize proteins and eliminate toxic waste.

Stimulate the body to produce natural alpha-interferon, a potent immune system enhancer and powerful virus inhibitor.

Provide critical Lactoferrin supplementation as a by-product of their metabolism. Lactoferrin is an iron-binding protein essential for retrieving iron from foods.

What symptoms can occur if I don't have enough probiotics?

A lack of beneficial bacteria often results in poor intestinal and immune system health, contributing to a wide range of symptoms and illnesses. The following symptoms may result from a lack of probiotics:

Gas

Bloating and Indigestion Diarrhea and/or Constipation

Bad Breath and Body Odor

Candida Yeast Infections

Skin Problems such as Acne, Eczema and Psoriasis

Delayed Development in Children

Frequent Colds

What is the difference between Primal Defense supplements and other probiotics?

Even if they manage to get through destructive stomach acids, most probiotic supplements have difficulty implanting in colons that are pH imbalanced or have too many harmful bacteria.

HSO blends are designed to implant in any colonic environment. The Microflora™ Delivery System ensures that the probiotics colonize throughout the digestive tract where they are most effective.

The probiotics contained in Primal Defense supplements are grown and incorporated into a living whole food substrate using the Poten-Zyme™ process, which allows them to thrive on their long journey through the GI tract.

Most probiotic companies grow bacteria, and then in a centrifuge, separate them from their substrate. We believe the substrate is as important as the probiotics themselves.

Many probiotics have included fructooligosaccharides (FOS) in their product. FOS is an indigestible sugar that may cause digestive disturbances in certain individuals. Primal Defense contains no FOS.

Since most probiotic supplements contain live cultures, they are temperature and age sensitive, therefore requiring refrigeration. If room temperature can begin to degrade these probiotics, imagine what the warm human body will do. Our HSOs remain dormant until activated in body fluids, and requires no refrigeration.

Many probiotic products measure their potency in colony-forming units (CFUs), whereas in Primal Defense, it's not the quantity of probiotics that counts; it's the quality. The hardy probiotic strains in Primal Defense are resistant to heat, cold, stomach acid, chlorine, fluorine, ascorbic acid and bile. The efficacy of a probiotic should be based upon its ability to thrive in the digestive tract, whatever the conditions.

If I'm healthy, how can I benefit from taking Primal Defense?

Total health begins in the gut, so an optimized digestive tract can offer any number of benefits, including more regular bowel movements, better sleep patterns, fewer colds and flu and more energy.

Where do Garden of Life's proprietary HSOs come from?

Years ago, our soil was teeming with beneficial microbes, which humans would consume through their food. Today, however, the use of pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals has virtually eliminated the beneficial probiotic content in our planting soil. In order to gain the HSO benefits we once enjoyed, Garden of Life accesses an exclusive, proprietary process to cultivate naturally occurring colonies of HSOs in a laboratory, using Superfood substrates and pure, nutrient-dense soil.

What probiotic species does Primal Defense contain?

Primal Defense supplements are a natural whole food probiotic blend of HSOs utilizing our proprietary Poten-Zyme™ process and the Microflora Delivery System. The Superfood blend in each Primal Defense caplet is cultured using the following 12 probiotic species:

Lactobacillus plantarum

Lactobacillus brevis

Bifidobacterium bifidum

Lactobacillus salivarius

Bifidobacterium lactis

Lactobacillus acidophilus

Lactobacillus rhamnosus

Bacillus subtilis

Bifidobacterium breve

Lactobacillus paracasei

Lactobacillus casei

Bifidobacterium longum

--

Whew... I'm gonna have to grab a dictionary to even stand a chance to make sense of that ;)

Probiotics

Probiotics

TRADE NAMES

Mega Dophilus (Natren), Healthy Trinity (Natren), Bifido Factor (Natren), Digesta Lac (Natren), Life Start (Natren), Probiata (Wakunaga Consumer).

Probiotics Description

Probiotics are defined as live microorganisms, including Lactobacillus species, Bifidobacterium species and yeasts, that may beneficially affect the host upon ingestion by improving the balance of the intestinal microflora. The dietary use of live microorganisms has a long history. Mention of cultured dairy products is found in the Bible and the sacred books of Hinduism. Soured milks and cultured dairy products, such as kefir, koumiss, leben and dahi, were often used therapeutically before the existence of microorganisms was recognized. The use of microorganisms in food fermentation is one of the oldest methods for producing and preserving food. Much of the world depends upon various fermented foods that are staples in the diet.

Élie Metchnikoff, the father of modern immunology, spoke highly about the possible health benefits of the lactic acid-bacteria (LAB) Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus in his writings at the turn of the last century. He wrote in his book, The Prolongation of Life, that consumption of live bacteria, such as Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus, in the form of yogurt was beneficial for gastrointestinal health, as well as for health in general, and for longevity. Some recent research suggests that certain live microorganisms may have immunomodulatory and anticarcinogenic effects, as well as other health benefits. There is presently much active research focusing on the development of target-specific probiotics containing well-characterized bacteria that are selected for their health-enhancing characteristics. These new probiotics are entering the marketplace in the form of nutritional supplements and functional foods, such as yogurt functional food products.

The gastrointestinal tract represents a complex ecosystem in which a delicate balance exists between the intestinal microflora and the host. The microflora are principally comprised of facultative anaerobes and obligate anaerobes. Approximately 95% of the intestinal bacterial population in humans is comprised of obligate anaerobes, including Bifidobacterium, Clostridium, Eubacterium, Fusobacterium, Peptococcus, Peptostreptococcus and Bacteroides. Approximately 1% to 10% of the intestinal population is comprised of facultative anaerobes, including Lactobacillus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus and Bacillus. Aerobic organisms are not present in the intestinal tract of healthy individuals with the exception of Pseudomonas, which is present in very small amounts. Most of the bacteria are present in the colon where the bacterial concentration ranges between 1011 to 1012 colony-forming units (CPU) per milliliter.

The intestinal microflora are important for maturation of the immune system, the development of normal intestinal morphology and in order to maintain a chronic and immunologically balanced inflammatory response. The microflora reinforce the barrier function of the intestinal mucosa, helping in the prevention of the attachment of pathogenic microorganisms and the entry of allergens. Some members of the microflora may contribute to the body's requirements for certain vitamins, including biotin, pantothenic acid and vitamin B12. Alteration of the microbial flora of the intestine, such as may occur with antibiotic use, disease and aging, can negatively affect its beneficial role.

The probiotics that are marketed as nutritional supplements and in functional foods, such as yogurts, are principally the Bifidobacterium species and the Lactobacillus species. Probiotics are sometimes called colonic foods. Most of the presently available probiotics are bacteria. Saccharomyces boulardii is an example of a probiotic yeast.

The following describe the various bacteria and yeasts used as probiotics:

BIFIDOBACTERIUM

Bifidobacteria are normal inhabitants of the human and animal colon. Newborns, especially those that are breast-fed, are colonized with bifidobacteria within days after birth. Bifidobacteria were first isolated from the feces of breast-fed infants. The population of these bacteria in the colon appears to be relatively stable until advanced age when it appears to decline. The bifidobacteria population is influenced by a number of factors, including diet, antibiotics and stress. Bifidobacteria are gram-positive anaerobes. They are non-motile, non-spore forming and catalase-negative. They have various shapes, including short, curved rods, club-shaped rods and bifurcated Y-shaped rods. Their name is derived from the observation that they often exist in a Y-shaped or bifid form. The guanine and cytosine content of their DNA is between 54 mol% and 67mol%. They are saccharolytic organisms that produce acetic and lactic acids without generation of CO2, except during degradation of gluconate. They are also classified as lactic acid bacteria (LAB). To date, 30 species of bifidobacteria have been isolated. Bifidobacteria used as probiotics include Bifidobacterium adolescentis, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium animalis, Bifidobacterium thermophilum, Bifidobacterium breve, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium infantis and Bifidobacterium lactis. Specific strains of bifidobacteria used as probiotics include Bifidobacterium breve strain Yakult, Bifidobacterium breve RO7O, Bifidobacterium lactis Bb12, Bifidobacterium longum RO23, Bifidobacterium bifidum RO71, Bifidobacterium infantis RO33, Bifidobacterium longum BB536 and Bifidobacterium longum SBT-2928.

LACTOBACILLUS

Lactobacilli are normal inhabitants of the human intestine and vagina. Lactobacilli are gram-positive facultative anaerobes. They are non-spore forming and non-flagellated rod or coccobacilli. The guanine and cytosine content of their DNA is between 32 mol% and 51 mol%. They are either aerotolerant or anaerobic and strictly fermentative. In the homofermentative case, glucose is fermented predominantly to lactic acid. Lactobacilli are also classified as lactic acid bacteria (LAB). To date, 56 species of the genus Lactobacillus have been identified. Lactobacilli used as probiotics include Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus cellobiosus, Lactobacillus crispatus, Lactobacillus curvatus, Lactobacillus fermentum, Lactobacillus GG (Lactobacillus rhamnosus or Lactobacillus casei subspecies rhamnosus), Lactobacillus gasseri, Lactobacillus johnsonii, Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus salivarus. Lactobacillus plantarum 299v strain originates from sour dough. Lactobacillus plantarum itself is of human origin. Other probiotic strains of Lactobacillus are Lactobacillus acidophilus BG2FO4, Lactobacillus acidophilus INT-9, Lactobacillus plantarum ST31, Lactobacillus reuteri, Lactobacillus johnsonii LA1, Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFB 1748, Lactobacillus casei Shirota, Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM, Lactobacillus acidophilus DDS-1, Lactobacillus delbrueckii subspecies delbrueckii, Lactobacillus delbrueckii subspecies bulgaricus type 2038, Lactobacillus acidophilus SBT-2062, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus salivarius UCC 118 and Lactobacillus paracasei subsp paracasei F19.

LACTOCOCCUS

Lactococci are gram-positive facultative anaerobes. They are also classified as lactic acid bacteria (LAB). Lactococcus lactis (formerly known as Streptococcus lactis) is found in dairy products and is commonly responsible for the souring of milk. Lactococci that are used or are being developed as probiotics include Lactococcus lactis, Lactococcus lactis subspecies cremoris (Streptococcus cremoris), Lactococcus lactis subspecies lactis NCDO 712, Lactococcus lactis subspecies lactis NIAI 527, Lactococcus lactis subspecies lactis NIAI 1061, Lactococcus lactis subspecies lactis biovar diacetylactis NIAI 8 W and Lactococcus lactis subspecies lactis biovar diacetylactis ATCC 13675.

SACCHAROMYCES

Saccharomyces belongs to the yeast family. The principal probiotic yeast is Saccharomyces boulardii. Saccharomyces boulardii is also known as Saccharomyces cerevisiae Hansen CBS 5296 and S. boulardii. S. boulardii is normally a nonpathogenic yeast. S. boulardii has been used to treat diarrhea associated with antibiotic use.

STREPTOCOCCUS THERMOPHILUS

Streptococcus thermophilus is a gram-positive facultative anaerobe. It is a cytochrome-, oxidase- and catalase-negative organism that is nonmotile, non-spore forming and homofermentative. Streptococcus thermophilus is an alpha-hemolytic species of the viridans group. It is also classified as a lactic acid bacteria (LAB). Steptococcus thermophilus is found in milk and milk products. It is a probiotic and used in the production of yogurt. Streptococcus salivarus subspecies thermophilus type 1131 is another probiotic strain.

ENTEROCOCCUS

Enterococci are gram-positive, facultative anaerobic cocci of the Streptococcaceae family. They are spherical to ovoid and occur in pairs or short chains. Enterococci are catalase-negative, non-spore forming and usually nonmotile. Enterococci are part of the intestinal microflora of humans and animals. Enterococcus faecium SF68 is a probiotic strain that has been used in the management of diarrheal illnesses.

ACTIONS AND PHARMACOLOGY ACTIONS

Probiotics may have antimicrobial, immunomodulatory, anticarcinogenic, antidiarrheal, antiallergenic and antioxidant activities.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Lactobacillus plantarum 299v, which is derived from sour dough and which is used to ferment sauerkraut and salami, has been demonstrated to improve the recovery of patients with enteric bacterial infections. This bacterium adheres to reinforce the barrier function of the intestinal mucosa, thus preventing the attachment of the pathogenic bacteria to the intestinal wall. Bifidobacterium breve was found to eradicate Campylobacter jejuni from the stools of children with enteritis, although less rapidly than in those treated with erythromycin. Lactobacillus GG was found to eradicate Clostridium difficile in patients with relapsing colitis, and supplementation of infant formula milk with Bifidobacterium bifidum and Streptococcus thermophilus reduced rotavirus shedding and episodes of diarrhea in hospitalized children.

The antimicrobial activity of probiotics is thought to be accounted for, in large part, by their ability to colonize the colon and reinforce the barrier function of the intestinal mucosa. Probiotics, such as Lactobacillus bulgaricus, which do not adhere as well to the intestinal mucosa, are much less effective against enteric pathogens. In addition, some probiotics have been found to secrete antimicrobial substances. These substances are known as bacteriocins. Such a bacteriocin has been isolated from Lactobacillus plantarum ST31, a probiotic derived from sour dough. The substance was found to be a 20 amino acid peptide. A different bacteriocin was isolated from another strain of Lactobacillus plantarum. The bacteriocin has 27 amino acids and contains lanthionine residues. This type of bacteriocin is classified as a lantibiotic.

Lactobacillus casei has been demonstrated to increase levels of circulating immunoglobulin A (IgA) in infants infected with rotavirus. This has been found to be correlated with shortened duration of rotavirus-induced diarrhea. Lactobacillus GG has also been shown to potentiate intestinal immune response to rotavirus infection in children. Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum appear to enhance the nonspecific immune phagocytic activity of circulating blood granulocytes. This effect may account, in part, for the stimulation of IgA responses in infants infected with rotavirus. In healthy individuals, Lactobacillus salivarius UCC118 and Lactobacillus johnsonii LA1 were demonstrated to produce an increase in the phagocytic activity of peripheral blood monocytes and granulocytes. Also, Lactobacillus johnsonii LA1, but not Lactobacillus salivarius UCC118, was found to increase the frequency of interferon-gamma-producing peripheral blood monocytes.

Lactobacillus GG has been shown to inhibit chemically induced intestinal tumors in rats. The probiotic appears to alter the initiation and/or promotional events of the chemically-induced tumors. Lactobacillus GG also binds to some chemical carcinogens.

Saccharomyces boulardii has been shown to prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhea and also to prevent diarrhea in critically ill tube-fed patients. The mechanism of this antidiarrheal effect is not well understood. S. boulardii has been found to secrete a protease which digests two protein exotoxins, toxin A and toxin B, which appear to mediate diarrhea and colitis caused by Clostridium difficile. The protective effects of S. boulardii on C. difficile-induced inflammatory diarrhea may, in part, be due to proteolytic digestion of toxin A and toxin B by a secreted protease.

Dietary antigens may induce an immunoinflammatory response that impairs the barrier function of the intestine, resulting in aberrant absorption of intralumenal antigens. This may account, in part, for food allergies. Probiotics that colonize the colon may be helpful in the management of some with food allergies by reinforcing the barrier function of the intestinal mucosa. Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG and Bifidobacterium lactis Bb12 were found to produce significant improvement of atopic eczema in children with food allergies. The decrease in the signs and symptoms of atopic eczema occurred in parallel with a reduction in the concentration of circulating CD4+ T lymphocytes and an increase in transforming growth factor beta1 (TGF-beta1), indicating suppressive effects on T cell functions in this disorder. These probiotics may help restore the Th1/Th2 balance in atopic eczema.

Lactobacillus GG was found to scavenge superoxide anion radicals, inhibit lipid peroxidation and chelate iron in vitro. The iron chelating active of Lactobacillus GG may account, in part, for its antioxidant activity. Other lactic acid bacteria, including strains of Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Bifidobaterium longum and Streptococcus thermophilus, have also demonstrated antioxidative ability. Mechanisms include chelation of metal ions (iron, copper), scavenging of reactive oxygen species and reducing activity.

PHARMACOKINETICS

The effectiveness of probiotics is related to their ability to survive in the acidic stomach environment and the alkaline conditions in the duodenum, as well as their ability to adhere to the intestinal mucosa of the colon and to colonize the colon. Some probiotics, such as Lactobacillus GG and Lactobacillus plantarum 299v, are better able to colonize the colon than others. After passage through the stomach and the small intestine, those probiotics that do survive become established transiently in the colon.

INDICATIONS AND USAGE

Probiotics have been used with some benefit in the prevention and treatment of some gastrointestinal disorders, including antibiotic-associated diarrhea and some infectious and viral diarrheas, most notably rotavirus-induced diarrhea in infants and children, lactose intolerance, sucrase and maltase deficiencies and inflammatory bowel disease. Probiotics may be of benefit in some with food allergies, but supporting evidence is preliminary. They may favorably modulate immunity in some circumstances and may have anticarcinogenic effects. There is the suggestion in some preliminary research that they may have some hypocholesterolemic activity. There is some evidence to support the use of probiotics to re-colonize the vaginas of women with recurrent vaginosis.

RESEARCH SUMMARY

Among the probiotics, only S. boulardii, E. faecium and Lactobacillus sp. have been useful in preventing antibiotic-related diarrhea. In one double-blind study, 180 hospitalized patients on antibiotic therapy were randomized to receive placebo or S. boulardii supplementation. Incidence of diarrhea was significantly lower among those receiving the probiotic, compared with controls (9% and 22%, respectively). These results have been confirmed in other controlled studies.

Lactobacillus GG significantly reduced the severity and duration of rotavirus diarrhea in infants in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study. Other researchers have demonstrated that the incidence of acute diarrhea and rotavirus shedding can be significantly reduced among infants admitted to the hospital by adding Bifidobacterium bifidum and Streptococcus thermophilus to infant formula. Lactobacillus GG has been shown helpful in the treatment of diarrhea associated with relapsing colitis due to Clostridium difficile. These studies, however, were small and uncontrolled. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, Saccharomyces boulardii was significantly superior to placebo in treating diarrhea despite having no apparent effect on Clostridium difficile toxin. The use of probiotics in the attempted prevention and treatment of traveler's diarrhea, most commonly caused by enterotoxigenic E. coli, has produced inconclusive results. More study is needed.

Reduced fecal concentrations of various probiotics have been noted, although without conclusive power, in some with active ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, active pouchitis and some other inflammatory gastrointestinal conditions. Lactobacillus species prevented development of spontaneous colitis in interleukin 10-deficient mice. Lactobacillus plantarum ameliorated colitis that was already established in the same animal model.

In a clinical trial, subjects with chronic relapsing pouchitis given a probiotic preparation for nine months, consisting of L. casei, L. plantarum, L. acidophilus and L. delbruekii subspecies bulgaricus, had significantly fewer relapses than did unsupplemented subjects receiving placebo. No side effects were seen. Some researchers believe that Lactobacillus GG may also be useful in treating pouchitis.

Some lactic acid bacteria, including L. plantarum, L. rhamnosus, L. casei and Lactobacillus bulgaricus, have demonstrated immuno-regulatory effects that might help protect against some allergic disorders. There is some evidence that some of these probiotic strains can reduce the intestinal inflammation associated with some food allergies, including cow's milk allergy among neonates. Breast-fed infants of nursing mothers given Lactobacillus GG had significantly improved atopic dermatitis, compared with infants not exposed to this probiotic.

There are in vitro, animal and some preliminary human data suggesting that some probiotics can bind and inactivate some carcinogens, can directly inhibit the growth of some tumors and can inhibit bacteria that may convert precarcinogens into carcinogens. L. acidophilus and L. casei have exhibited the latter activity in human volunteers. There is some preliminary evidence that L. casei may have reduced the recurrence of bladder tumors in humans. Confirmatory trials are needed. Animal work has suggested that some lactic-acid bacteria might help protect against colon cancer. Again, more research is needed.

Dairy products containing L. acidophilus have been credited with lowering cholesterol levels in some animal experiments. It has been hypothesized that bacterial assimilation of cholesterol in the intestine might reduce cholesterol stores available for absorption into the blood. To date, there is no credible evidence showing that any of the probiotics can lower cholesterol levels in humans. More study may be warranted. Yogurt has been used for some time as an "alternative" treatment for vaginitis. In an early test of this hypothesis, women with recurrent candidal vaginitis were treated with yogurt for six months. This was a crossover trial with subjects serving as their own controls. Daily ingestion of 8 ounces of yogurt significantly decreased both candidal colonization and infection.

Recently L. acidophilus, L. crispatus and L. delbrueckii subspecies delbrueckii all inhibited bacterial vaginosis-associated bacterial species in vitro. The researchers concluded that these probiotics might be useful for vaginal recolonization in women with recurrent vaginosis.

Owing to the fact that yogurt and some other probiotic-containing products are foods, rather than regulated pharmaceuticals, and owing to the fact that the probiotic content and potential of these food products may be highly variable, some researchers and clinicians have questioned the use of these products to treat vaginitis. In any event, larger better controlled studies are needed to further evaluate their reliability and efficacy in this context.

Vitamins

Vitamins

Do you need vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements for your health? If you do, which vitamins should you take?

Most of us are willing to concede the necessity of having a good balance of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients in our daily diet for good health, but many of us wonder if it is necessary to use vitamin pills and other dietary supplements to do this. Can't we get enough of the vitamins we need from our daily diet?

I suppose that some of us might be in good enough health not to need additional vitamins, minerals, and other dietary supplements, but IF YOU FALL INTO ONE OF THE GROUPS BELOW, you might want to consider adding at least a daily multivitamin supplement to your diet.

If you are a woman: Women are possibly deficient in such minerals as magnesium, folic acid, zinc, calcium, and in some cases, iron. If you are pregnant or using birth control, you may require additional vitamin or mineral supplements for good health.

If you diet for weight loss or follow a fairly limited diet or restricted nutritional regimen: Important vitamins and minerals are scattered widely across a broad range of nutritional options (i.e. foods), and if you are limiting your intake by volume or by type, you are likely limiting your intake of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients vital to your health.

If you eat the normal American diet: Actually, the normal American diet is not very normal, nor is it good for your health! It is, however, terribly lacking in the vitamins, minerals, enzymes, hormones, and other nutritional elements a healthy body needs. Additionally, if your diet does contain all of these in optimal quantities, you are probably eating way too much food - Catch 22!
If you smoke or drink alcohol often: Smoking and excessive drinking (roughly more than two drinks a day - which is GOOD for you), depletes certain vitamins and other nutrients.

If you are already NOT in good health, physically or mentally: Your body may not be processing the vitamins, minerals, etc. that your are providing in your diet. Also, the EXTRA vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients you provide with supplements may have a positive affect on the condition. It goes without saying that an appropriate supplementation program MIGHT HAVE PREVENTED or lessened the impact of the health problem in the first place.

If you love junk food and it tends to be a major part of your diet: Once again, you are probably not getting the dietary balance of vitamins, minerals, and other nutritional elements necessary for good health. Sadly, many of the constituents of these types of food, particularly refined sugar, actually leach vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients from your body, or prevent the effective use, tranport, or absorption of these nutrients.

If you cannot afford a steady diet of the foods that you realize are most valuable to your health: A multivitamn pill costs only a few cents a day, and without changing another single fact of your life, can contribute significantly to your health and well-being.

If you are over 65 years of age: You have specific deficiencies and needs, as well as a possible array of health problems. Odds are that you are lacking in B-12, Vitamin D, Vitamin K, folic acid, zinc, Vitamin C, and other vitamins and minerals. As our bodies age (I'm 60, so I can talk), they become less efficient at processing nutrients of all types, so even if your typical diet contains all the nutrients you need, your body is probably not getting the complete benefit from them. I mentioned some possible deficiencies above. Let's look at only one - Vitamin D deficiency - as this is very common in folks over 65. This vitamin deficiency may contribute to some forms of cancer (including breast and colon cancer), muscular weakness, joint pain, and the well published one - osteoporosis. Again, a daily multivitamin can go a long way towards promoting health in the years both before and after age 65. OKAY, WHO'S LEFT!

If you are male, under 65, in excellent mental and physical health, exercise regularly, have a nutritionally rich and diverse diet, do not smoke or drink, and are NOT QUITE CERTAIN that YOUR DIET contains all the vitamins, minerals, and other nutritional elements necessary for good health: You MIGHT want to tilt the odds in your favor with a good daily multivitamin supplement.

EVERYBODY ELSE CAN LEAVE!

Your health is fine. You don't need to supplement your present diet with vitamins and minerals.
The author is retired from the Army after 21 years of service, has worked as an accountant, optical lab manager, restaurant manager, and instructor. It is considered to be an auto-immune condition for which conventional medicine has no cure. The person is generally given steroids and other drugs to control flare-ups and bleeding. The only cure conventional medicine has is to remove a person’s colon. This disease can either be minor with occasional flare-ups, or debilitating and severe. The internal bleeding can cause severe anemia. The diarrhea can cause a loss of fluids and electrolytes. The pain from intestinal spasms can be extreme. It can get to the point that a person does not want to eat for fear of the pain and the problems they have due to ulcerative colitis.

There are a number of natural ways to manage and control ulcerative colitis, and even potentially put the disease into remission.

Colitis Management
First of all, there are methods of modulating the immune system and reducing its tendency to create inflammation without the use of steroids. Steroids can have numerous side effects, especially used long term for a chronic condition like this. They can cause bone loss, water retention, severe insomnia, psychosis (means you go crazy), and impairment of organs. Researchers are also looking into the possibility that the euphoric high some people get from steroids like prednisone may cause psychological dependency.

A number of essential fatty acids and enzymes can reduce the inflammatory response of the immune system. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish oil and in flaxseed oil. This has been shown to be beneficial for people with all sorts of auto-immune conditions including ulcerative colitis. Another fatty acid is called cetyl-myristolate, also called CMO. CMO has been used successfully to treat a number of auto-immune conditions, including ulcerative colitis. One enzyme that seems promising for the treatment of ulcerative colitis is serrapeptase. Serrapeptase is excellent for managing the pain and reducing inflammation in the colon, and in other areas of the body.

Certain vitamins are helpful for ulcerative colitis. Highest on the list is vitamin C. Vitamin C is known to regulate the immune system’s response and reduce inflammation. Sublingual B-vitamin complex can also be beneficial. The B-vitamins can aid the nervous system, reducing a negative response to stress, which is often the source of people’s flare-ups.

Pectin and liquid soluble fiber have been shown to be useful in controlling ulcerative colitis, and preventing flare-ups. Many people have found that colloidal silver, taken regularly, can put their ulcerative colitis in remission.

The long chain mucilaginous polysaccharides found in aloe vera gel, made from the inner leaf of the aloe vera plant, can heal the damage and the ulcerations formed in the colon during a flare-up of ulcerative colitis.

The Chinese herbal formula, Jianpiling, has been used on over 10,000 people in China with ulcerative colitis. It has been shown to put 66% of cases into remission within 3 months of taking the formula. Some people needed to take the formula again a year later to go back into remission, but the majority still had no flare-ups one year after the study. When examined via colonoscopy, erosions, mucous accumulation, and bleeding spots were shown to be eliminated in 90% of patients.

A Chinese herbal remedy that has been commonly used for all sorts of internal bleeding has been shown to help stop bleeding from ulcerative colitis as well. This formula is called Yunnan Paiyao. It contains pseudoginseng, which has hemostatic properties. Other Chinese herbs used to stop bleeding from ulcerative colitis include mume and sanguisorba.

If a person does take corticosteroids to control ulcerative colitis, they can reduce the dosage they take by also taking licorice root. Licorice root has components that are similar to cortisol. As a result, taking the root magnifies the effects of corticosteroids, making it possible to get similar effects from a smaller dosage. If you take this route, be sure to work with your physician to wean yourself to lower dosages slowly.

As you can see, there are many natural methods of managing ulcerative colitis. All natural remedies require consistency over time to see the best results, since they are generally milder than chemical drugs. Natural approaches also work best if you work on your health in between flare-ups and don't wait for the situation to become extreme before addressing it. If you are ready to be diligent and take charge of your own health, then the natural route to treating ulcerative colitis may be the best option for you.

Dr. Khan is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and Licensed Acupuncturist. Each is minutely measured giving you the RDAs,DVs, IUs, milligrams and so on. It’s enough information to make your head swim!

Some studies suggest that specific vitamin and mineral supplements can help reduce your risk of heart disease by 30 to 40 percent and even slow the progress of the disease. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to obtain over the counter.

Vitamins are also credited with boosting the immune system and it is believed that older people who take vitamin and mineral supplements do have stronger immune systems. The immune system becomes less efficient as we age. The belief is that if your immune system can’t protect you, the door is thrown wide open for cancer and other serious diseases to waltz right in.

So, the answer is yes, supplements can help but don’t expect them to work miracles. You can’t continue to do the steak and eggs or burger and fries thing and think that popping a pill will be a cure-all because it isn’t! Vitamin supplements will help prevent disease even though it may take at least six months to a year to register the improvement. That’s not an excuse to put it off, because the sooner you begin, the better the results.

Let’s take a look at weight for instance. If you take in too many calories and gain weight you increase the risk of cancer, heart disease and stroke. But, cutting the calories to either lose or maintain your weight may result in deficiencies in vitamins and minerals. You can replace key vitamins and minerals lost by dieting with carefully selected supplements.

Another challenge is compensating as the body’s systems begin to slow down. As we age, our systems are not working as efficiently as they once were. For example, you don’t have as much stomach acid that helps to get nutrients from food. That means that as much as 40% of the nutrients you ingest may go unused resulting in deficiencies of vitamins D, B6, B12, riboflavin, folate and calcium.

Your body’s system for storing the nutrients isn’t as efficient either because the percentage of body fat increases with age. While your metabolism keeps you alive and healthy, it also produces by products that can be harmful including free radicals and other compounds that cause damage to cells’ DNA and can lead to many of the effects of old age.

As we get older, the body reduces the amount of antioxidants it produces and it will become more difficult to get enough antioxidant protection just from your food. Although you can get most of the nutrients you need from a multi-vitamin, you may want to take extra supplements of certain vitamins and minerals to promote optimum health.

As a cautionary measure, however, make certain that you are not exceeding the recommended ranges. You can get too much of a good thing. It is also advisable to consult with your physician regarding any supplemental regimen as some supplements may have adverse interaction with certain medications you are taking.

Here are a few suggestions we would like to share with you.

Avoid multi-vitamins with time release formulas. By the time they dissolve they may be too far down the intestinal tract where absorption is poor. Store your vitamins away from hot or humid places. It is better to keep them with your spices rather than the bathroom or near direct sunlight or heat.

Take your vitamins with a meal. Some nutrients are only released with fat so taking them with your low-fat meal is optimum.

Check the expiration date on the bottle. Buying a large amount just to save a few dollars isn’t a bargain if you won’t be using them before their effectiveness expires.

If you drink even moderately, take extra vitamins and minerals.

If you want to lose weight, take more calcium. If you don’t consume enough calcium your body will over produce calcitriol. This hormone promotes fat storage in the body. But, calcium supplements won’t be as beneficial as dietary calcium. Have four daily servings of nonfat or low-fat dairy products instead.

About The Author: Wan Ibrahim is the Editor of Healthy 4Life eNewsletter.Visit http://health.adipublishing.biz/newsletter.htm for more fresh material to help you improve your health and fitness.

Crohn's Disease

What is Crohn’s disease?
Crohn’s disease is an ongoing disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive tract, also referred to as the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Crohn’s disease can affect any area of the GI tract, from the mouth to the anus, but it most commonly affects the lower part of the small intestine, called the ileum. The swelling extends deep into the lining of the affected organ. The swelling can cause pain and can make the intestines empty frequently, resulting in diarrhea.

Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory bowel disease, the general name for diseases that cause swelling in the intestines. Because the symptoms of Crohn’s disease are similar to other intestinal disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis, it can be difficult to diagnose. Ulcerative colitis causes inflammation and ulcers in the top layer of the lining of the large intestine. In Crohn’s disease, all layers of the intestine may be involved, and normal healthy bowel can be found between sections of diseased bowel.

Crohn’s disease affects men and women equally and seems to run in some families. About 20 percent of people with Crohn’s disease have a blood relative with some form of inflammatory bowel disease, most often a brother or sister and sometimes a parent or child. Crohn’s disease can occur in people of all age groups, but it is more often diagnosed in people between the ages of 20 and 30. People of Jewish heritage have an increased risk of developing Crohn’s disease, and African Americans are at decreased risk for developing Crohn’s disease.
Crohn’s disease may also be called ileitis or enteritis.

What causes Crohn's disease?

Several theories exist about what causes Crohn’s disease, but none have been proven. The human immune system is made from cells and different proteins that protect people from infection. The most popular theory is that the body’s immune system reacts abnormally in people with Crohn’s disease, mistaking bacteria, foods, and other substances for being foreign. The immune system’s response is to attack these “invaders.” During this process, white blood cells accumulate in the lining of the intestines, producing chronic inflammation, which leads to ulcerations and bowel injury.

Scientists do not know if the abnormality in the functioning of the immune system in people with Crohn’s disease is a cause, or a result, of the disease. Research shows that the inflammation seen in the GI tract of people with Crohn’s disease involves several factors: the genes the patient has inherited, the immune system itself, and the environment. Foreign substances, also referred to as antigens, are found in the environment. One possible cause for inflammation may be the body’s reaction to these antigens, or that the antigens themselves are the cause for the inflammation. Some scientists think that a protein produced by the immune system, called anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF), may be a possible cause for the inflammation associated with Crohn’s disease.

What are the symptoms?

The most common symptoms of Crohn’s disease are abdominal pain, often in the lower right area, and diarrhea. Rectal bleeding, weight loss, arthritis, skin problems, and fever may also occur. Bleeding may be serious and persistent, leading to anemia. Children with Crohn’s disease may suffer delayed development and stunted growth. The range and severity of symptoms varies.

How is Crohn's disease diagnosed?

A thorough physical exam and a series of tests may be required to diagnose Crohn’s disease.
Blood tests may be done to check for anemia, which could indicate bleeding in the intestines. Blood tests may also uncover a high white blood cell count, which is a sign of inflammation somewhere in the body. By testing a stool sample, the doctor can tell if there is bleeding or infection in the intestines.

The doctor may do an upper GI series to look at the small intestine. For this test, the person drinks barium, a chalky solution that coats the lining of the small intestine, before x rays are taken. The barium shows up white on x-ray film, revealing inflammation or other abnormalities in the intestine. If these tests show Crohn’s disease, more x rays of both the upper and lower digestive tract may be necessary to see how much of the GI tract is affected by the disease.
The doctor may also do a visual exam of the colon by performing either a sigmoidoscopy or a colonoscopy. For both of these tests, the doctor inserts a long, flexible, lighted tube linked to a computer and TV monitor into the anus. A sigmoidoscopy allows the doctor to examine the lining of the lower part of the large intestine, while a colonoscopy allows the doctor to examine the lining of the entire large intestine. The doctor will be able to see any inflammation or bleeding during either of these exams, although a colonoscopy is usually a better test because the doctor can see the entire large intestine. The doctor may also do a biopsy, which involves taking a sample of tissue from the lining of the intestine to view with a microscope.

What are the complications of Crohn's disease?

The most common complication is blockage of the intestine. Blockage occurs because the disease tends to thicken the intestinal wall with swelling and scar tissue, narrowing the passage. Crohn’s disease may also cause sores, or ulcers, that tunnel through the affected area into surrounding tissues, such as the bladder, vagina, or skin. The areas around the anus and rectum are often involved. The tunnels, called fistulas, are a common complication and often become infected. Sometimes fistulas can be treated with medicine, but in some cases they may require surgery. In addition to fistulas, small tears called fissures may develop in the lining of the mucus membrane of the anus.

Nutritional complications are common in Crohn’s disease. Deficiencies of proteins, calories, and vitamins are well documented. These deficiencies may be caused by inadequate dietary intake, intestinal loss of protein, or poor absorption, also referred to as malabsorption.
Other complications associated with Crohn’s disease include arthritis, skin problems, inflammation in the eyes or mouth, kidney stones, gallstones, or other diseases of the liver and biliary system. Some of these problems resolve during treatment for disease in the digestive system, but some must be treated separately.

What is the treatment for Crohn's disease?

Treatment may include drugs, nutrition supplements, surgery, or a combination of these options. The goals of treatment are to control inflammation, correct nutritional deficiencies, and relieve symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding. At this time, treatment can help control the disease by lowering the number of times a person experiences a recurrence, but there is no cure. Treatment for Crohn’s disease depends on the location and severity of disease, complications, and the person’s response to previous medical treatments when treated for reoccurring symptoms.

Some people have long periods of remission, sometimes years, when they are free of symptoms. However, the disease usually recurs at various times over a person’s lifetime. This changing pattern of the disease means one cannot always tell when a treatment has helped. Predicting when a remission may occur or when symptoms will return is not possible.
Someone with Crohn’s disease may need medical care for a long time, with regular doctor visits to monitor the condition.

Drug Therapy

Anti-Inflammation Drugs. Most people are first treated with drugs containing mesalamine, a substance that helps control inflammation. Sulfasalazine is the most commonly used of these drugs. Patients who do not benefit from it or who cannot tolerate it may be put on other mesalamine-containing drugs, generally known as 5-ASA agents, such as Asacol, Dipentum, or Pentasa. Possible side effects of mesalamine-containing drugs include nausea, vomiting, heartburn, diarrhea, and headache.

Cortisone or Steroids. Cortisone drugs and steroids—called corticosteriods—provide very effective results. Prednisone is a common generic name of one of the drugs in this group of medications. In the beginning, when the disease it at its worst, prednisone is usually prescribed in a large dose. The dosage is then lowered once symptoms have been controlled. These drugs can cause serious side effects, including greater susceptibility to infection.
Immune System Suppressors. Drugs that suppress the immune system are also used to treat Crohn’s disease. Most commonly prescribed are 6-mercaptopurine or a related drug, azathioprine. Immunosuppressive agents work by blocking the immune reaction that contributes to inflammation. These drugs may cause side effects like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea and may lower a person’s resistance to infection. When patients are treated with a combination of corticosteroids and immunosuppressive drugs, the dose of corticosteroids may eventually be lowered. Some studies suggest that immunosuppressive drugs may enhance the effectiveness of corticosteroids.

Infliximab (Remicade). This drug is the first of a group of medications that blocks the body’s inflammation response. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the drug for the treatment of moderate to severe Crohn’s disease that does not respond to standard therapies (mesalamine substances, corticosteroids, immunosuppressive agents) and for the treatment of open, draining fistulas. Infliximab, the first treatment approved specifically for Crohn’s disease is a TNF substance. Additional research will need to be done in order to fully understand the range of treatments Remicade may offer to help people with Crohn’s disease.
Antibiotics. Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine caused by stricture, fistulas, or prior surgery. For this common problem, the doctor may prescribe one or more of the following antibiotics: ampicillin, sulfonamide, cephalosporin, tetracycline, or metronidazole.

Anti-Diarrheal and Fluid Replacements. Diarrhea and crampy abdominal pain are often relieved when the inflammation subsides, but additional medication may also be necessary. Several antidiarrheal agents could be used, including diphenoxylate, loperamide, and codeine. Patients who are dehydrated because of diarrhea will be treated with fluids and electrolytes.

Nutrition Supplementation

The doctor may recommend nutritional supplements, especially for children whose growth has been slowed. Special high-calorie liquid formulas are sometimes used for this purpose. A small number of patients may need to be fed intravenously for a brief time through a small tube inserted into the vein of the arm. This procedure can help patients who need extra nutrition temporarily, those whose intestines need to rest, or those whose intestines cannot absorb enough nutrition from food. There are no known foods that cause Crohn’s disease. However, when people are suffering a flare in disease, foods such as bulky grains, hot spices, alcohol, and milk products may increase diarrhea and cramping.

Surgery

Two-thirds to three-quarters of patients with Crohn’s disease will require surgery at some point in their lives. Surgery becomes necessary when medications can no longer control symptoms. Surgery is used either to relieve symptoms that do not respond to medical therapy or to correct complications such as blockage, perforation, abscess, or bleeding in the intestine. Surgery to remove part of the intestine can help people with Crohn’s disease, but it is not a cure. Surgery does not eliminate the disease, and it is not uncommon for people with Crohn’s Disease to have more than one operation, as inflammation tends to return to the area next to where the diseased intestine was removed.

Some people who have Crohn’s disease in the large intestine need to have their entire colon removed in an operation called a colectomy. A small opening is made in the front of the abdominal wall, and the tip of the ileum, which is located at the end of the small intestine, is brought to the skin’s surface. This opening, called a stoma, is where waste exits the body. The stoma is about the size of a quarter and is usually located in the right lower part of the abdomen near the beltline. A pouch is worn over the opening to collect waste, and the patient empties the pouch as needed. The majority of colectomy patients go on to live normal, active lives.
Sometimes only the diseased section of intestine is removed and no stoma is needed. In this operation, the intestine is cut above and below the diseased area and reconnected.
Because Crohn’s disease often recurs after surgery, people considering it should carefully weigh its benefits and risks compared with other treatments. Surgery may not be appropriate for everyone. People faced with this decision should get as much information as possible from doctors, nurses who work with colon surgery patients (enterostomal therapists), and other patients. Patient advocacy organizations can suggest support groups and other information resources.

People with Crohn’s disease may feel well and be free of symptoms for substantial spans of time when their disease is not active. Despite the need to take medication for long periods of time and occasional hospitalizations, most people with Crohn’s disease are able to hold jobs, raise families, and function successfully at home and in society.

Can diet control Crohn's disease?

People with Crohn’s disease often experience a decrease in appetite, which can affect their ability to receive the daily nutrition needed for good health and healing. In addition, Crohn’s disease is associated with diarrhea and poor absorption of necessary nutrients. No special diet has been proven effective for preventing or treating Crohn’s disease, but it is very important that people who have Crohn’s disease follow a nutritious diet and avoid any foods that seem to worsen symptoms. There are no consistent dietary rules to follow that will improve a person’s symptoms.

People should take vitamin supplements only on their doctor’s advice.

Can stress make Crohn’s disease worse?

There is no evidence showing that stress causes Crohn’s disease. However, people with Crohn’s disease sometimes feel increased stress in their lives from having to live with a chronic illness. Some people with Crohn’s disease also report that they experience a flare in disease when they are experiencing a stressful event or situation. There is no type of person that is more likely to experience a flare in disease than another when under stress. For people who find there is a connection between their stress level and a worsening of their symptoms, using relaxation techniques, such as slow breathing, and taking special care to eat well and get enough sleep, may help them feel better.

Is pregnancy safe for women with Crohn's disease?

Research has shown that the course of pregnancy and delivery is usually not impaired in women with Crohn’s disease. Even so, women with Crohn’s disease should discuss the matter with their doctors before pregnancy. Most children born to women with Crohn’s disease are unaffected. Children who do get the disease are sometimes more severely affected than adults, with slowed growth and delayed sexual development in some cases.

Garden of Life Products

GARDEN OF LIFE, INC. introduces CLENZOLOGY™, An Advanced Hygiene System A Personal Care Innovation that takes Hygiene to the next level

WEST PALM BEACH, FL - May 13, 2004 - Garden of Life, Inc. is introducing a revolutionary hygiene system called Clenzology™ that has been scientifically developed to improve basic cleansing regimens and promote better health and well being. Symptoms of chronic fatigue also include muscle and joint pain, muscle weakness, bowel problems, unexplained headaches, forgetfulness, poor concentration, confusion, poor temperature control and difficulty sleeping.Fibromyalgia and arthritis are frequent accompaniments to patients with chronic fatigue syndrome.

The cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is not well understood.

Conditions that have been proposed to trigger the development of chronic fatigue include virus infection and toxins. Some theories suggests that chronic fatigue is related to stress, overwork, physical inactivity, problems with the immune system, low blood pressure,or hormonal imbalance.Colitis, hypoglycemia and brucellosis can also cause chronic fatigue syndrome.

Regardless of the cause, chronic fatigue has a major impact on the quality of life.

Chronic fatigue syndrome is very hard to diagnose, and many people go for years without knowing that they have it. No laboratory tests are available to confirm a diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome. The diagnosis of CFS is made only if no other cause, including side effects of drugs,is found to explain the fatigue.

Unexplained chronic fatigue cases can be classified as CFS if the patient has a minimum of four of the following eight symptoms:impairment of short-term memory and concentration, sore throat, tender lymph nodes, muscle pain,multi-joint pain, headaches of a new type or pattern or severity, unrefreshing sleep, and fatigue lasting more than 24 hours after physical exertion.

For a patient to be officially diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome, the symptoms must have persisted for at least six months.

If the patient's symptoms do not meet the criteria for CFS, then the condition is referred to as idiopathic chronic fatigue.

Chronic fatigue syndrome is a frustrating illness that affects people of all ages. Because there is no specific diagnostic test for chronic fatigue syndrome,no one knows how many people suffer from this illness. It is estimated that half a million Americans suffer from CFS. Women are diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome two to four times as often as men are. It's not clear, however, whether CFS affects women more frequently - or if women report it to their doctors more often than men do.

Treating CFS presents a significant challenge to people with chronic fatigue and their healthcare practitioners.

Viktor Radcliff is the owner of BuyFramed.com. type='text'>Disney Pictures

Disney Pictures

Check out a new collection of Disney Pictures. I'm trying to build a gigantic collection of Pictures of Disney on the internet. Can you believe that? I've already got quite a few Disney Pictures online, and I add them all the time. Some Disney Pictures I found online, and others I took directly from the Disney Movies.

I have some pictures of Ariel from The Little Mermaid. Ariel is so cute and she wishes she was a real girl instead of a mermaid. I also have pictures of Disney Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I even have a couple of good pics of Belle and Sebastian. I recently added a whole bunch of Cinderella pictures. Cinderella is one of Disney's oldest movies, so I really like the Cinderella pictures.

Do you remember Disney Jasmine from the movie Aladdin? The Aladdin Disney movie was so cool. I loved all the action in it. I also have Disney Mulan pictures. To me, Mulan is the prettiest Disney Princess. As you can see I have very very many Disney Pictures! They are very well organized too.

Let's see who's next? I know! It's Mickey Mouse. Isn't it funny how so many Disney movies are actually just named after the princess in the movie? You'll see Tinkerbell in my disney collection also. Don't forget Winnie the Pooh is also part of Disney Pictures. It's funny the first Disney move I ever saw was Little Mermaid. And I loved every second of it!

So what are you waiting for? Go check out my blog! Check out all the Disney Pictures and Disney Coloring Pages if you can. Feel free to share, you can send me your own and download mine! If you have any Disney Pictures I don't have then by all means, send them in!

Neil Strauss | Attract Women

Attract Women | Seduction and Dating Tips

So you'd like to learn how to attract women. Well you've come to the right place. I can teach you how to attract women and learn from scratch, even if you have no prior experience. Even if you consider yourself to have some game, but want to experience the real social dynamics in bars, clubs, shopping malls, coffee shops, and even supermarkets, you still may be struggling to may be wondering how to get a girlfriend of particular quality or beauty. I've dated hundreds of the most beautiful women in the world, and have been teaching seduction and dating for a few years now.

A lot of guys want to become a master pick-up artist like Neil Strauss. They have all read Neil Strauss' The Game, and know full well that Neil Strauss himself studied something called Mystery Method. Mystery is a seduction workshop similar to theApproach. Neil Strauss learned some really great seduction techniques to use with women, when talking to women. He's also very good at starting conversations with women. While studying the art of seduction and more specifically, fast seduction, Neil Strauss eventually concluded that he preferred a more natural approach.

So, you may ask "What is the secret to becoming good with women?" A common answer is for people to give out the same old flirting tips that have been around for generations. I personally won't do that. Those old flirting tips come from another generation and aren't as effective on women these days. Women are playing a new game now, with new rules. If you want the cutting edge flirting body language that has been field-tested by master pickup artists, then click on this link: Married Flirting.

Some of you may want to take it one step further. You may have aspirations to become a true pickup artist. There are many great rewards of being a pickup artist but that is a skill that does not come easily. Most successful guys who have reached this level of mastery with women have not done it just by reading the same old dating tips. If you need dating ideas, then you've come to the right place, but you must put in a lot of dedicated work if you truly want to double your dating.

So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and get started right away by reading a few seduction resources and check out our seduction forum. There are many articles I have written personally. However, don't be mistaken. The game is learned in the field, in real-life and not just by reading a bunch of articles on seduction. It's the actual seduction workshop that changes your life and it's the experiences that you'll have during or because of the workshop. Trust me, although some people consider me some kind of fantastic guru, hanging with me doesn't come anywhere close to as magical as that first moment when you meet your next new girlfriend! Those are the experiences we live for. Those magic little moments where the world glows with positivity. The moments when nothing else seems to matter but you and the beautiful woman you're holding beside you. There is no better time in your life to make this change than RIGHT NOW.

pic

Jazz Lessons

Jazz Lessons

I used to take guitar lessons a long time ago from a guy who owned a music store. Back then, it was impossible to take guitar lessons online and you had no chance if you ever wanted to learn guitar from a great teacher who lived halfway around the world. I then became interested in jazz guitar, and although I didn't yet own a guitar, I had a bass and took bass guitar lessons.

At the time, learning electric bass was fun. Although it wasn't exactly jazz lessons, I still managed to learn quite a bit. Nowadays the only real choice is to go to Jazz Master Ed Byrne if you want quality online jazz lessons. His online music lessons are incredible! You and your sweetheart are shopping for best man presents, bridesmaids presents, flower girl presents and a whole lot more. And there looks like there is a lot to buy that it's mind boggling! You and your loved one have got wedding accessories on the brain including picking out your bridal jewelry and flower girl jewelry too. What purchases are best for you?

By breaking down your shopping list into smaller, more manageable pieces, you and your loved one can attack everything you need to order from deluxe unity candles to distinctive etched presents. You and your loved one merely need to select the suitable thing to get for your recipient.

For example, what sort of groomsmen present ideas are you hoping to find? Take into account the groomsmen’s personality types, likes and dislikes. Some cool special groomsmen gifts consist of game paraphernalia. Is the best man a poker player? Monogrammed poker chips might be a great gift, in conjunction with some specially themed game playing cards. Other gifts for groomsmen consist of personalized barware and etched shot glasses for the groomsmen that have a bar in their house or enjoy entertaining frequently. And if you have to go a little more traditional, consider monogrammed cufflinks that the groomsmen could not only wear at the wedding ceremony, but for other special occasions too. Valet trays are an unforgettable present idea and advantageous as a type of “catch all” for safekeeping stuff like ring bands, change and other tiny stuff together.

Bridesmaid gifts are an additional concern in the wedding gift department. Ladies delight in relics and personal mementos like individualized candles, picture frames and unique inscribed presents like heart mirror compacts, earring and necklace jewelry set and shot glasses. Like one of the best man gift ideas, personalized leather valet trays are also realistic for the young ladies too. The bridesmaids can keep a hold of their watches and other tiny things that normally clutter the dresser top.

Your ringbearer and flower girl also need to be regarded in the gift area. Some tremendous ring bearer presents entail engraved baseball bats, pewter tractor banks and other items. Flower girl jewelry is a great choice for your littlest girl helper. the crystal petals flower girl jewelry set or monogrammed inscribed presents such as engraved heart lockets or jewelry boxes are appreciated by little flower girls.

Wedding accessories fall into an immense category. This might be anything from the bridal shoes and veil to unity candle stands and bridal jewelry. Just think of wedding accessories as anything that flatters the “bigger” picture. The bride's necklace and earrings complements the wedding dress as do the shoes, veil and even hair berets, tiaras and bridal purses.

Deluxe unity candles portray a significant part of the ceremony itself, which is emblematic of two separate souls becoming one in wedlock. Unity candles might be individualized candles with the wedding day and names of the happy couple.

You and your significant other may need other guy gifts for those people as your doorkeepers and the happy couple's dads. Some of the groomsmen gifts will be fantastic for the other favorite guys in your family. The men could organize a big game night using their lettered poker chips and saluting the happy couple with their very own individualized barware and etched glasses.

Doorkeepers and the daddies could also use the individualized cufflinks for their festive events as well as the ceremony too. And for the little league slugger inconspicuous inside them, their very own lettered baseball bats could possibly be a home run to them.

Can you understands why it would seem like there is a conspiracy with the retailers and dealers? It's due to the fact that there are many present ideas to pick out! By just espousing the persuasion of breaking your gift list down into feasible pieces, you will come across ideal gifts for the significant people in your wedding party.

Health

web hosting

Professional web hosting services in the UK & USA. I'm trying to build the largest collection of Pictures of Disney Princesses on the entire internet. Can you believe that?
I've already got quite a few Disney Princess Pictures online, and I add them all the time. Some Disney Princess Pictures I found online, and others I took directly from the Disney Movies.

I have some pictures of Disney Ariel from The Little Mermaid. Ariel is so cute and she wishes she was a real girl instead of a mermaid. I also have pictures of Disney Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I even have a couple of good pics of Belle and Sebastian. I recently added a whole bunch of Cinderella pictures. Cinderella is one of Disney's oldest movies, so I really like the
Cinderella pictures.

I know! It's Disney Pocohantas. Isn't it funny how so many Disney movies are actually just named after the princess in the movie? You'll see in my Disney Princess
collection that this is true a lot of the time. Disney Sleeping Beauty is another example of that. It's funny the first Disney move I ever saw was Disney Snow White. And I loved every second of it!

I also just made a couple brand new pages with Disney Princess Desktops and Disney Princess Wallpaper. Just looking at all this Disney stuff makes me want to go on a Disney Cruise,
or even get a Disney Rental. I even have a page with some great Discount Disney Tickets offers on it. So if you actually do decide to go on a Walt Disney Cruise, hopefully you can use the Disney World Coupons to get some Disney Tickets!

So what are you waiting for? Garden of Life's proprietary Poten-Zyme fermentation process makes Fungal Defense easy to digest and assures more complete absorption of valuable nutrients.

What is Candida and How Does it Affect Me?

Candida albicans is a single-celled fungal yeast that inhabits the intestinal tract and mucous membranes of every living person. Among the most prolific organisms on the planet, it is impossible to keep out of the body, but it does little harm when balanced by beneficial microorganisms, or probiotics. However, when the immune system is compromised or friendly bacteria are killed by taking antibiotics, candida can grow unrestrained and produce infections that can last for years. To help keep candida in check, anti-fungal medications (Fungal Defense) or probiotics (Primal Defense) should be taken whenever antibiotics are used.

Personal Note: Since doctors had put me on multiple antibiotics for years from a variety of different infections and problems that had plagued me, this is why I started the 14-day regimen of Fungal Defense from Garden of Life before beginning with Primal Defense. What a difference this has made for me!

What Are HSO Blends From Garden of Life and Why Do I Need Fungal Defense to Fight Yeast?

Homeostatic Soil Organism blends (HSOs) are highly stable, beneficial probiotic microorganisms. Impervious to stomach acids, they crowd out pathogens and aggressively consume yeasts, fungi and bad bacteria in the intestines. Healthy people usually have a balance of approximately 85% good and 15% harmful organisms in the intestinal tract. Most of us, however, have the opposite ratio as a result of daily exposure to our environment, and even certain habits that are considered healthy. Taking antibiotics, drinking chlorinated water and using antibacterial soap, for example, often kill the good bacteria essential for health. The HSOs in Fungal Defense supplement help restore the system-wide balance of good and bad bacteria to boost the immune system.

How Can I Prevent Candida From Recurring?

The powerful ingredients in Fungal Defense by Garden of Life are specifically targeted to destroy yeast and other fungi to restore a balanced, healthy internal environment. To prevent re-infection and maintain a properly balanced system, you should reduce or, in some cases, eliminate sweets; carbohydrates such as bread, pasta, muffins and glutenous grains; alcohol; vinegar; fruits and aged cheeses from your diet. Sugars and carbohydrates in particular feed yeast, which thrives in sugary environments and causes cravings for those foods to increase.

Should I use Fungal Defense and Primal Defense together?

No! Begin with a 14-day Fungal Defense program as directed on the product label before starting to use Primal Defense products.

What Makes Your Fungal Defense FormulaBetter Than Other Anti-Fungal Formulas?

Garden of Life's Fungal Defense is the only anti-fungal formula on the market containing Homeostatic Soil Organism compunds (HSOs)—among nature's most powerful weapons against candida, viruses and fungi. Our proprietary Poten-Zyme fermentation process makes our Fungal Defense supplement easier to digest and assures more complete absorption of valuable nutrients.

What is In the Fungal Defense Supplement?

Wild Oregano and Olive Leaf Extracts: Wild Oregano and Olive Leaf Extracts are recognized for their potent anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-parasitic properties. Their primary fungicidal components work synergistically to help eliminate yeast and fungus on contact. Garlic and Yucca Juice Extracts: Known as Russian penicillin, Garlic is considered to be nature's premier antibiotic and anti-fungal. It is effective against bacteria and yeast that may be resistant to antimicrobial medications yet does not destroy the body's normal, friendly flora. A potent blood purifier, the juice from the Yucca root found predominantly in the desert Southwest aids in digestion and produces surfactants which help to breakdown the lipid envelope that coats certain viruses and fungi including Candida. Fermentation: The whole food ingredients in Fungal Defense, are lacto-fermented and enzymatically pre-digested, utilizing a proprietary natural process called Poten-Zyme (Potentiation by Enzymatic activation). This ancient method of bio- fermentation incorporates 14 strains of beneficial micro-organisms and their enzymes into the foods, gently breaking them down into their most basic elements. Fermentation creates and liberates valuable medicinal compounds within the foods including enzymes, antioxidants, beta glucans, phytosterols, and other phytonutrients - greatly enhancing the nutritional value while making it easier to digest. This assures more complete absorption and delivery of nutrients at the cellular level. The Enzyme Connection: Candida research favorably supports the indespensible role of specific enzymes and their ability to literally digest Candida cell walls. The Fungal Defense formula utilizes potent amounts of both cellulase and protease. Cellulase breaks down fibrous carbohydrates while protease hydrolyzes (digests) protein. These two enzymes help to dissolve the cell wall of yeast and other fungi.

Each Fungal Defense caplet contains:

Wild Oregano Concentrate (6% Volatile Oils) 342mg
Fungal Defense ™ N-Zime™ Blend 233mg
Protease 20,000 HUT
Cellulase 20,000 CU
Poten-Zyme™ D. Lichenformis
Poten-Zyme™ Yucca Juice Extract (20:1) 30mg

Personal Note: And to think I just used to take Acidophilus, and thought that would take care of everything. What an amazing difference Garden of Life's products have made in my health!

How Should I Take Fungal Defense?

Begin this 14-day program with 1 caplet before bedtime on an empty stomach with 8 oz. of purified water. Increase by 1 caplet each day until you reach 8 caplets per day in divided doses first thing in the morning and before bed. Remain on 8 caplets per day for 7 days.

PERSONAL NOTE: I had to make myself a chart for the 14 days and mark off the time and how many to take each day to keep it straight!

Because the key to balancing yeast overgrowth is to maintain healthy intestinal flora, we highly recommend that after completion of the 14-day Fungal Defense program, begin taking Primal Defense 6 -12 caplets per day for 3-6 months and reduce to a maintenance dosage as per label instructions.

Goatein

Goatein from Garden of Life is the highest quality protein powder available. It contains all eight essential amino acids — protein building blocks crucial to enhancing your immune system and alleviating the effects of oxidative stress on the body. Goatein protein is produced from goat's milk that contains no chemicals, antibiotics or female growth hormones, leaving its amino acids, enzymes and beneficial bacteria in their purest forms. Because the smaller molecules in goat's milk are closer in size and composition to human milk, Goatein protein is easy to digest and can be tolerated by many people who cannot digest cow's milk. Additionally, Goatein protein is partially predigested using our proprietary Poten-Zyme ™ process to enhance nutrient absorption and bio-availability.

Why Do I Need a Protein Supplement?

Proteins form the foundations for muscles, skin, bones, hair, teeth, blood, the brain, the heart and billions of biochemical activities in the body. They are made up of approximately 22 amino acids, eight of which are considered "essential" because the body cannot produce them and they must be obtained through diet. Protein is needed to maintain proper pH balance — a key component of good health. Without adequate amounts of protein, your blood and tissues can become either too acidic or too alkaline, resulting in a pH imbalance. Insufficient dietary protein can also slow growth in children, and can contribute to chronic fatigue, slow wound healing and decreased resistance to infection in adults. By adding a high-quality protein formula like Goatein to your diet, you get the protein needed to maintain vibrant health.

Is The Animal Protein in Goatein Better Than Vegetable Protein?

Yes! Animal protein is the only complete source of protein available. Vegetarian sources such as soy are typically low in one or more of the essential amino acids, even when overall protein content is high. There is also some controversy regarding the safety of soy. Soy protein is thought by some researchers to be high in mineral-blocking phytates and thyroid-depressing phytoestrogens. Potent enzyme inhibitors in soy may even depress growth.

Why Is Goatein Protein Easier To Digest Than Cow's Milk?

The smaller molecules in goat's milk are closer in size and composition to human milk and substantially less allergenic than cow's milk protein. Additionally, Goatein protein from Garden of Life is partially pre-digested through our proprietary Poten-Zyme™ process, making it even more bio-available while virtually eliminating its lactose content. Research has shown that proteins from milk pre-digested by lacto-fermentation are absorbed more efficiently than those of non-fermented milk. An added benefit of the fermentation process is that it creates digestive enzymes that aid in the assimilation of nutrients.

What Is Oxidative Stress andHow Does Goatein Powder Help the Body Fight It?

Oxidative stress is a harmful condition that occurs when there is an excess of free radicals, a decrease in antioxidant levels, or both in the body. Scientific studies show free radicals are the culprits of many diseases. Goatein protein powder helps fight oxidative stress with glutathione, an antioxidant that hunts free radicals and environmental toxins that can damage and destroy healthy cells.

What Makes Goatein Protein from Garden of LifeBetter Than Other Protein Products?

Most commercial dairy protein powders are produced from animals given antibiotics and/or BrST that produce female hormones. Many vegetable protein powders are made from non-organic or genetically modified organisms and may contain chemical residues. By contrast, Garden of Life's Goatein protein powder is made from pure goat's milk, without antibiotics or female growth hormones. Our goats are not fed pesticides, herbicides, growth hormones or antibiotics. Additionally, most other milk protein powders are made from cow's milk and although they claim to be "minimally processed," invasive processing, including heating at high temperatures is used. Because Goatein protein powder is processed without acid or excessive heat, the amino acids, enzymes and beneficial bacteria remain in their natural forms.

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

Healthy Dietary Oil

Garden of Life Coconut Oil is an unprocessed culinary oil with natural coconut flavor and aroma.
Coconut oil is a stable, healthy saturated fat that is naturally free from trans-fatty acids. With 20 different digestive enzymes, OmegaZyme provides a broad array of enzymes to help your body process a wide variety of foods. Each of these enzymes has a specific function. For example, the protease blend aids the digestion and utilization of dietary proteins. Amylase digests starch, Lipase digests fats, and Lactase digests the milk sugar lactose. Garden of Life understands that having a broad range of enzymes that support the digestion of a multitude of nutrients in the gastrointestinal tract is vital to the efficacy of the product. Additionally, Garden of Life believes that the enzyme viability at different pH levels is equally important. OmegaZyme was specifically formulated to include enzymes that are active across different pH levels.

What are enzymes and why do I need them?

Enzymes are protein-like substances that act as catalysts for all chemical reactions in the body. Enzymes help maintain the body's tissues, orchestrate its functions and digest food. There are three kinds of enzymes:

Metabolic Enzymes - spark many of the reactions inside cells, enabling our organs, tissues, and cells to work properly.

Food Enzymes - supplied by what we eat, they help break down food before our digestive enzymes are called upon. The majority of food enzymes are destroyed at temperatures above 118 ºF, so nearly all cooked and processed foods are devoid of them.

Indigenous Digestive Enzymes - secreted by the pancreas into the small intestine, they break down the nutrients in the foods we eat that have not already been broken down by food enzymes.

Garden of Life believes that enzymes are perhaps our most important and overlooked dietary component. Before the advent of modern food processing, we ate a diet that was rich in "live" raw and fermented foods. These foods contained many of the food enzymes that our diet lacks today. Food enzymes aid in the digestion of food. Without them, the body is forced to produce enough digestive enzymes to break down the nutrients in the food we consume.

A great way to get the enzymes you need is to consume a diet high in "live" raw and fermented foods, and/or to supplement your diet with digestive enzymes such as those found in OmegaZyme.

What’s in OmegaZyme

OmegaZyme contains potent enzymes that support the digestion of a multitude of nutrients in the gastrointestinal tract. OmegaZyme contains the following enzymes:

Protease blend of five proteolytic enzymes aids digestion and utilization of dietary proteins
Amylase digests starch
Lipase digests fats
Glucoamylase breaks down starch-like carbohydrates
Malt diastase (maltase) digests maltose based carbohydrates or malt found in grains
Invertase (sucrase) is an enzyme that breaks down sucrose into glucose and fructose
Alpha-galactosidase helps digestion of difficult-to-digest foods such as beans, legumes and cruciferous vegetables
Lactase digests the milk sugar lactose
Cellulase digests fiber cellulose into smaller units
Xylanase breaks down xylose, also called wood sugar
Pectinase breaks down carbohydrates such as pectin, found in the pulp of many fruits
Hemicellulase breaks down carbohydrates widely present in plant foods
Phytase breaks down phytic acid present in many difficult-to-digest grains and beans. Research supports the view that phytic acid present in plant foods interferes with digestion of proteins and utilization of many important minerals, such as Zinc, Magnesium and Iron
Beta-glucanase breaks down bulky beta-glucan molecules into smaller units
Bromelain, derived from pineapple, breaks down a broad variety of proteins
Papain, derived from papaya, also digests proteins into peptides and amino acids

What makes your OmegaZyme different from other enzyme supplements?

OmegaZyme is one of the most complex and comprehensive digestive enzyme products available, with 20 different digestive enzymes. Additionally, it is formulated with one of the highest activity levels for individual enzymes.

How do I take OmegaZyme?

OmegaZyme comes in two easy-to-use forms: Powder and Caplets. OmegaZyme powder can be sprinkled directly on food that is room temperature or cooler at each meal or snack.

Perfect Food

Perfect Food ® and Perfect Food ® Original are powerful, whole food formulas packed with antioxidant green grasses, micro-algae, sea vegetables, whole vegetables and their juices, sprouted grains, seeds, legumes and acerola cherries. Ranked the No. 1 selling green food in the natural products industry, Perfect Food contains more greens per serving than any other super green food. That's the nutritional equivalent of five to 10 servings of vegetables in convenient caplets or an easy-to-mix powder.

Nearly every major health organization recommends eating five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables per day to protect against degenerative diseases. Yet, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, less than 9% of American adults consume the recommended servings.

Perfect Food and Perfect Food Original are complete whole food supplements that give you all the vitamins and minerals you need to feel your best and achieve better health. Formulated using our proprietary Poten-Zyme™ process, Perfect Food supplements are easily absorbed by the body, even for those suffering digestive disorders. High in nutritional value and low in calories, Perfect Food is also ideal for those on low carbohydrate diets who are unable to eat enough dark green leafy vegetables.

Add Perfect Food products to your daily regimen and feel the difference only perfect food can make.

Perfect Food supplements come in two easy-to-use forms: powder and UltraZorbe™ caplets.

What are super green foods and why do I need them?

Super green foods are derived from young cereal grasses such as wheat, barley, rye, oats and alfalfa, as well as spirulina, chlorella, kelp, dulse and other sea vegetables. Perhaps the most nutrient-dense foods on earth, these grasses are richer in nutrients than spinach, broccoli, eggs and chicken in virtually all categories including protein, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, zinc, copper, manganese, vitamin C, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B12, carotenoids and vitamin E.

Super green foods are the only foods in the vegetable kingdom that enable animals to continually maintain their weight, strength and optimal health even if consumed alone. They abound in unidentified growth factors, powerful antioxidants, immune boosters and many other health enhancing nutrients.

What are the effects of not eating enough vegetables and greens?

Surprisingly, malnutrition can occur even if your body is only deficient in a single vitamin. Malnutrition means you're not getting enough nutrients as a result of an inadequate or unbalanced diet or because of digestive or absorption difficulties. Symptoms of malnutrition include lack of energy, irritability, a weakened immune system leading to frequent colds or allergies, and mineral depletion that can trigger a variety of health concerns including anemia.

If I'm already taking a vitamin supplement, why do I need Perfect Food® supplements?

The whole foods found in Perfect Food provide vitamins and minerals as nature intended, with all the naturally occurring co-factors and synergistic compounds intact. They contain hundreds, and possibly thousands, of nutrients that cannot be isolated and put into a vitamin and mineral supplement.

Whole foods and their concentrates contain complete nutritional complexes the body recognizes and assimilates according to what it needs—a process called "selective absorption." In contrast, most vitamin and mineral supplements are made from fractionated, isolated or synthetic sources that can potentially create an environment of biochemical imbalances and toxicities.

For optimal health, there's nothing better or more compatible to the human body than nutrient-rich, unprocessed whole foods in their balanced, natural state, like those found in Perfect Food.

Jordan Rubin

Jordan Rubin Interview!

Mike: I'm here today with Jordan Rubin, the chairman of Garden Of Life. Jordan, your books and products have been taking the nutritional world by storm. To what do you owe this success, and what is coming up in terms of products or information that people might be interested in learning about?

Rubin: You know, Mike, I think there are really a few reasons behind our success. Number one is that this company was founded based on a personal mission -- really a responsibility that I feel I have to share this message of health and hope with the world. I've been given the greatest gift: God has given me an opportunity to go through a personal challenge that changed my life and, more importantly, come out of that with a desire and a purpose to transform the health of the world one life at a time.

We've got 65 percent of our country's population overweight and 30 percent-plus that is obese -- that's nearly 20 percent greater than it was 20 years ago; that's one percent a year. Cancer, heart disease and diabetes are on the rise. There are no age limits any more for osteoporosis and Parkinson's disease, so I think people are very desperate for two things: Number one, they're fearful of being sick, and number two, they have the desire to look great, so it's the fear and greed thing.

What we've tried to do is reach back into the past and find answers for the present and future of how to transform people's lives. I often say that you can give somebody a supplement and get them healthy for a couple of hours. You can make somebody a meal, and they'll be healthy for half a day, but if you teach somebody how to prepare food, how to purchase food and what foods to eat, and if you share with somebody how to choose the right supplements, then you've empowered somebody to be healthy for a lifetime, so it's exciting to give information that I think does make a difference.

Mike: This is part of your book, The Maker's Diet -- giving people the knowledge and wisdom to make these healthy choices day in, day out, right?

Rubin: Yes, and I think what's also important, Mike, is that health is not about one pill or one food. Everybody likes to say, "Well, I tried the healthy thing. I took this supplement, or I ate this food." It's not about that. There are so many areas of health. We're talking about diet of course, and we're talking about supplements. Hygiene is another category we're trying to really introduce, with the concept of advanced hygiene and preventing germs from causing disease. There's the right way to exercise and the need for getting sunlight, rest and sleep – "body therapies," as we call them. There is the area of reducing stress, reducing toxins in your environment -- in the water you drink and bathe in, the air you breathe and the things you put on your skin, your hair or that you brush your teeth with.

There's the emotional side of health: I'm a big believer in the fact that if we are unforgiving, we're making ourselves just as sick as if we eat junk food. Then, I really emphasize the importance, the crucial importance, of finding your purpose and living it. That's what I've been able to do, and that's the greatest joy in my life in that I know what I'm supposed to do and I'm able to do it. It's not always easy, it's not always fun, it's not always what I want to do, but it's very clear to me that I have a mission on this Earth, and I think everybody does, too

You can look at all those areas of health; that's what makes The Maker's Diet unique. What makes Garden of Life unique is that we're an organization that wants to empower extraordinary health -- not give somebody something, not tell somebody what to do, but give somebody information to change their life and transform the lives of others around them.

Mike: I think, just from listening to you, that you understand healing on many different levels. As you said, this is not just a supplement company. You're talking about spiritual healing; you're talking about belief system transformation. You're talking about taking on personal responsibility, and you've stepped up to the plate and taken this responsibility, and you understand the power that comes with being in a position that you're in -- being able to reach out to so many people. I think that's admirable. My question is: How did you find the strength and the courage to be able to write that first book, to go through that disease transformation process and then be able to just blatantly put it all out there for the world to see?

Rubin: I found my strength and courage in one place, and it's really one word, and it's faith. You know, when I was told that I was going to die, when I was told that medicine couldn't help me, when medicine failed, and when I went from 185 pounds and healthy to 104 pounds in a wheelchair and had lost everything that the world calls important, I had one thing -- I had my faith in God. I knew that with God's power I could become what he wanted me to be, so I pretty much gave up.

You know, giving up isn't always a bad thing. I surrendered, and I said, "You know what? I'm going to get off my agenda. I'm going to follow what God has for my life." He didn't get me well so that I could go back to what I was doing before. He provided my healing so that I could turn into somebody that could be used. I mean, I'm just a vessel, you know? Every day, I wake up with an opportunity to reach one person, 100 people, 1,000 people or maybe one million people. I can give them a message of hope that can make this 60, 70, 80 or 90 years on Earth a lifetime journey of making a difference.

Everybody who's on their deathbed doesn't wish for money or more things; they want to make a difference in people's lives. What I want to offer to your listeners and readers is an opportunity to do that. One thing that I'm most proud of, and what I'm going to judge as success [this year], is how many people we can empower and train to train others. We have actually developed an online training tool on MakersDiet.com to allow people to learn the principles of The Maker's Diet, of extraordinary health, and then take it and transform the lives of their friends and families through small home groups.

You know, a lot of your friends and family won't go into a health food store. They think it's weird. Only six to eight percent of Americans shop there. They think, "It's different. I like my grocery store." But they'll go to someone's home, and we want to give the opportunity to anyone. You don't have to be a doctor, a nutritionist or a health expert. Anybody can facilitate this small group by learning this information and taking their friends and families through a 40-day health experience that will forever change their lives.

People do things better together. When there's a team of people who are focused on the same goal, it's unbelievable. With this program, we can literally transform one community after another all the way around the world. We always say, "I wish my dad would do this, I wish my mom would do that, I wish my sister would just do this." You will be empowered with the knowledge that could change their lives, so I want to encourage people who are listening or reading, if you're someone who wants to get healthy yourself and you want to help your friends or your family, visit MakersDiet.com and click on, "I want to be a small group leader." It's free online training and an online leader's guide. It will be an amazing opportunity for someone not only to get healthy, but also to fulfill a purpose, which is to transform somebody's life.

Mike: Just to remind everyone, we're talking with Jordan Rubin, chairman of Garden Of Life, and you can find Garden Of Life products in virtually every health food store in the U.S. and many other countries around the world. I want to say that your personal determination and personal passion really touched me. It's so inspiring to talk to someone like you who understands that this is not just about a product, and someone who really embodies that and lives it day to day. I'm truly touched by that. I've talked to many people about a lot of products, but I haven't heard this level of deep passion from very many.

Rubin: Well, you know, people ask me, Mike, when I speak, or when I share this message, they say, "Jordan, I'm sick, I'm old, I'm young, I'm fat, I'm thin ... When is it too late? Is it ever too late to start this 40-day health experience?" I say the only way you could start this, as a health journey, too late is if you start tomorrow. Now is the appointed time, and if you're listening or reading, don't let another day go by.

You don't know what's around the corner, and we're not promised tomorrow, but there is a promise of long and abundant life if we follow these age-old principles that we share and that I call The Maker's Diet. It can change your life no matter where you are. I encourage people to step up to the plate because the only thing we've got in this world is our testimony, and it's embodied in this skin, these bones and ligaments and whatever we are, and what we can leave on this Earth will live on forever, so it was a pleasure to share with your readers, and I look forward to teaming up with these people to change the world.

Mike: I wish you the best success, Jordan, with your product and your company, and thank you for spending these few minutes with me.

Rubin: Thank you. It's my pleasure.

Maker's Diet

Maker's Diet Excerpt: Here's an excerpt from the Maker's Diet regarding the religious implications:

Summary of the Maker's Diet Jordan Rubin says the kosher laws are still morally binding, no more outdated and legalistic than the 10 Commandments

By Jordan S. Rubin

1. The foods approved by God as recorded in Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 superceded “the Genesis Diet” found in the first chapter of the Bible. God declared, “These are the animals which you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth” (Lev. 11:2). Abraham, Moses, Jacob, and Jesus ate biblically clean meats. We aren’t in the Garden of Eden, so we all need animal protein. The Bible is specific as to the type: a. The meat of animals with a cloven or split hoof that also chew the cud (Lev. 11:3) can be eaten. This includes cows, goats, sheep, oxen, deer, buffalo, and so forth. b. Avoid animals, such as the camel, that chew the cud but do not have cloven or split hooves (Lev. 11:4). This includes, but is not limited to, horses, rats, skunks, dogs, cats, squirrels, and possums. c. Do not eat swine (pigs). They have divided hooves, but they do not chew the cud. These are unclean animals (Lev. 11:7–8). In fact, pigs are so unclean that God warns us not to even touch the body, meat, or carcass of a pig. The Hebrew words used to describe “unclean meats” can be translated as “foul, polluted, and putrid.”* The same terms were used to describe “human waste” and other disgusting substances.

2. Eat any fish with fins and scales but avoid fish or water creatures without them (Lev. 11:9–10). Those to avoid include smooth-skinned species such as catfish or eel and hard-shelled crustaceans such as crab, lobster, or clams.

3. Birds that live primarily on insects, grubs, or grains are considered clean, but avoid birds or fowl that eat flesh (whether caught live or carrion). They are unclean. (See the extensive list in Leviticus 11:13–19.)

Foreword

Dr. Jordan Rubin is on a mission from God to change the health of this nation. When I was first presented with the manuscript for this book, I couldn't put it down. I had been praying for over a year that God would show me a health plan that was based on the Bible and proven by science. The Maker's Diet is just that.

Jordan's journey from sickness to health is a true testament to the handiwork of a loving and compassionate God. God took Jordan through the valley, delivered him and positioned him to affect the lives of millions. His one and only focus is to help deliver people from the bondage of sickness and disease.

Our nation's health is at an all time low. I am constantly asked to pray for people who are suffering terribly from cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and so many other diseases. People that I love have lost their lives and many productive years to debilitating illnesses. Could they have been spared had they followed the principles of The Maker's Diet?

I have personally been following The Maker's Diet and have noticed an immediate improvement in my own health. I have never felt better in my life. To my surprise, the food is absolutely wonderful. In fact, Jordan, his wife Nicki and I have enjoyed some of the most delicious and healthy meals I have ever eaten. I believe that making my health a priority will allow me to fulfill my mission to preach the gospel to all the ends of the earth.

One thing that separates The Maker's Diet from all the other health programs I've read about and tried is its truly holistic approach to health. The Maker's Diet incorporates the four pillars of health which are physical, spiritual, mental and emotional. The physical health plan incorporates diet and nutrition, exercise, hygiene and body therapies and the importance of living in a healthy environment. The message of spiritual health is very clear. Each of us needs to find purpose in our life. We were all created for a reason. We were created to accomplish great things. Our connection with the Creator and His supreme purpose for our lives makes every day worth living. Our mental health is vitally important. The ability to control our thought life and focus on the tasks at hand can shape who we are. After all, you are what you think. Our emotional health and stability is interrelated with each of the other three pillars. We all encounter stress on a daily basis. Our circumstances are not always ideal. Stress and circumstances do not determine who we are. Our ability to handle adversity defines us. The health principals outlined in The Maker's Diet can provide you with the framework to achieve health physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally.

The Maker's Diet by Dr. Jordan Rubin has made a significant difference in my life. I urge each and every one of you to pay close attention to the principles outlined in this book and share them with the ones you love.

My God bless you and your family with incredible health.

Dr. Charles F. Stanley
Senior Pastor
First Baptist Church, Atlanta GA
Founder and President
In Touch Ministries

Primal Defense

Here's the best description I could find about Primal Defense:

Primal Defense supplement is the only probiotic formula designed to optimize the digestive, bowel and immune systems with a unique whole food Homeostatic Soil Organism (HSO) blend.

Garden of Life

Welcome to the Garden of Life Blog!

So I decided to keep a journal about my experiences with Garden of Life products, specifically Primal Defense. I started about two weeks ago and have already seen incredible improvements. So I decided to start a blog to spread the word.

I would love to hear anyone else's experience with Garden of Life Products.
